KPH’s success at the European Parliament Petitions Committee!
The Committee on Petitions (PETI) has agreed to further look into the discriminatory practices of Polish Registry Offices which refuse to issue certificates of marital status to Polish citizens who wish to enter a same-sex union in another EU country.

European Parliament´s Intergroup on LGBT Rights Intervene with MP Pieta
The EP´s Intergroup sent a letter to MP Stanislaw Pieta regarding his remarks which compared homosexuality to necrophilia, bestiality and pedophilia.

The letter was also send to the Polish Ombudsman. Read the letter here.
 
Monitoring Project Presented at Women's Event
The Network of East-West Women and Pomerania Women's Network held a public debate entitled "Working Towards Social Change - 15 years after Beijing, what next?" on Dec. 14 in Gdansk. Various panelists and participants from NGOs working towards gender equality and from political parties discussed the situation in Poland and possible strategies for further work. Greg Czarnecki, of KPH, was a member of the panel which answered the questions "How should institutions dealing with equality be monitored? How can one monitor politicians and political parties in terms of their work in equality of women and men?" The Monitoring Project was discussed which was well-received by participants.

2nd Rainbow Families Festival

KPH successfully put on the 2nd Rainbow Families Festival this year, Dec. 2-6. The aim of the annual festival is to offer a safe space for families lead by LGBT people to come together and learn about each other. It also is aimed at mainstreaming the idea that there are various family structures in which children are raised healthy and happy.

UN Committee Critical of Poland regarding the LGBT Situation

The UN's Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights recently published its recommendations to Poland, criticizing it for amongst other things, not ensuring the rights of LGBT people.

"When Words are Weapons" Hate Speeech Report

The Monitoring's Project first annual report focused on hate speech is now available in English. "When Words are Weapons: Homophobic Hate Speech and Other Discrimination in Poland 2008 Report" contains articles, among others, on the activities of the Project, an analysis of hate speech in Poland, and a our proposal to amend the hate speech and crimes criminal code in Poland.
